Print out these lists and compare Prices/Value! You'll be shocked! ![]()
You're not buying the store name, or very expensive "free cup of
coffee", or even that silly stuffed toy from Hong Kong, so "pay attention"
to gaining a bit of jewelry product knowledge to help you along the way.
If you've paid too much for that diamond that's the most expensive box of
Frango's, or cheap teddybear, you'll ever see!!! Markups are rapidly approaching
250-300%, so always compare!!!
The store dudes do not want you to find this out!
It's possible to purchase a $2,500 diamond for $4,500 (or more) in every city in the world, the trick is to buy it for less. If a stone is offered to you as a "split grade" by the seller, or without a certificate from a major gem lab like GIA, EGL or others, you must assume the stone has not been "accurately" graded yet. Since one grade in color or clarity can turn a seeming great deal into a very poor one you must always compare "apples to apples" in all the diamonds you consider. You can loose 25% of the value with an off cut so be very very careful! I had a retailer tell a customer he's match my price on an "F-VS1" one carat, but when the stone was graded it became a "J-SI1," so always remember that an independant cert is "critical"... For your protection! Print out my lists and see if your local store will match the price, they won't of course, at least with an accurately graded stone of similar specs they won't... Why??? That's a good question! The answer is "massive margins and over-head". Always be sure you compare all the certificate data, for a poor cut can devalue a stone dramatically, and it's these "off cuts" most stores use to lower their costs, and maximize their margins... So, if the saleperson tells you "a 65% table is ideal" (because they have one they'd love to sell) or "We grade our own stones" I'd recommend smiling as you exit quickly. Be smart, be safe. It's easy to make a mistake that can cost you dearly, so don't. Their buyers know that they can get huge discounts on these off makes, and those halogen lights in the mall can make driveway gravel sparkel and pop, so do be careful folks :) Remember your hard earned money is at stake! If you ever wondered how diamonds are graded and sold within the industry, and want to understand how we determine the value of diamonds, I invite you to pay a visit to my "practical guide to the four C's". For it's not quite as simple as it might seem on first glance... Knowing the color and clarity are just not enough to assure a fine purchase. Let's take an example, shall we??? :) If you're not getting complete data from another internet vendor there's probably a good reason why!
I know of one company that listed diamonds on their web site from a company I deal with, but they never even had an account, so it was a "bait and switch" routine they were playing. Always compare prices and certificates carefully. For example, let's take a carat size diamond, round brilliant, in an "F-SI1"... Set the cut specs at let's say, 64% table, now you have a stone that is substantially discounted from what a well cut "F-SI1" would be, add strong blue fluorescence and you seriously further denegrate the value... ...and with a non-certed stone a drop in color of a single point will cost you dearly, so don't buy one! You see, the point I'm trying to make here is that "the cut is the thing" , for it maximizes the diamond's beauty as surely as focusing a telescope on a distant star, making that distant image sharp and bright. So if you work with me you will always purchased a superior diamond, and save a fortune too :) "I guarantee it actually!" Comparing apples to apples will serve you well in shopping diamonds! Every line item on the lab report matters! We aren't interested in building a dozen new stores in the sun belt, we're interested in meeting real people's needs effectively. A "free" cup of coffee (or cheap stuffed toy) doesn't tip the scale to the good side if you paid too much! Unless you have money to burn (or own a jewelry store) you'll love these pages!
But enough of that, "words mean nothing, credentials, references
and price mean everything". Just remember to bookmark my page and locating
