Many merchants on the internet do you know, and it is a specific violation of the terms by which that merchant gains the "privilage of processing credit cards" so remember that "You should never pay an added fee for using your credit card"
The merchant who tries to charge you a "surcharge" is subject to loosing the right to process credit cards, and a hefty fine, if you report them they will find that this practice is both a direct violation of their merchant services contract and the very foundation of the credit card acceptance, which specifically is in the contract for each and every merchant world wide. Do yourself a favor, and others, by reporting merchants who violate this standard.
Using your credit card is safer and smarter, and it offers you a level of protection that is hard to beat in the 21rst century, but just remember that you have rights as a consumer, and are not obligated to pay a fee or surcharge for using 21rst century tools to shop.

When you are doing comparison shopping be sure to check the terms of the merchant, and if they want to add a fee to use a credit card make sure that you consider that and factor it into the published price, I think that you will find that while Pricescope and other clearing house style pricing comparison web sites can make your life easier the practice of charging you a fee to use your card can make a substantial difference, and you are not required to pay any fees or "surcharges" for the privilage of using your credit card.
