Hello Scott, I see that you found yer way here {Grin}...
I never did find that image of the exact ring which I build but I drew a close idea of what the layout is all about... Note the V-caps protect the stone's points, and also help to both define it's shape as well as secure it nicely...
The center crown holds the diamond nicely, just above the body of the ring and the side trim stones... I'd highly recommend a stout white gold crown for this devise, it being better at securing the stone and imparting no color to the stone... We can get some very nice rubies in a bunch of different qualities locally too, I will price this monday based on a very nice medium grade.... Something with great color and nice interior too....
This is such a nice style, that when I was reading you note about "color on the sides" this kept flashin' across my mind, I'm glad to say that this does convay the idea very nicely too...
A form fitted ring could easily be made for the side band too, formfitted to the side so that it follows the sides near perfectly... Doing this at the same time as the engagement ring makes loads of common sense, and won't take but an extra day or so to do it "perfectly".
