Engagement Page
of
Kimberly Marie Knutson and Scott King Walker
Thanks to our good friend Ray,
this page is being hosted by Associates Jewelers Inc. All of
the wonderful things I will say about his jewelry are true. I didn't
know him before I stumbled across his web page, and then after
discovering that he was a really great guy and really knew his jewelry
AND was offering things at great prices I decided to give him a chance.
He more than exceeded my expectations, and I want other people to be
just as happy....
Wedding Plans:
We are looking at getting married in Brookside Gardens in May of 1997
with just a few of our closest friends and family there. A small private
ceremony is just our preference. The trick will be how to keep it small
without offending anyone...
Kim will be taking Scott's last name to become Kimberly Marie Walker.
(Unless she changes her mind, but she seemed pretty set on the idea!)
We will probably be taking a drive for our honeymoon... Going out to
Wisconsin for a party with her relatives. I am not sure where else the
car will take us... Maybe someplace corny like Niagra Falls, which WOULD
be really neat to see. We also want to stop at one or more "quaint
little bed and breakfasts".

I am pleased to announce the engagement of
Kimberly Marie Knutson
and
Scott King Walker.
Wow. *shivers*
The engagement is finally public. I gave her the ring yesterday in front
of my family, though I had asked her before that. Everyone seems really
happy, except for my sister, but that is a long story and her own problem.
I have noticed that most of the posters here seem to be the
brides-to-be. Hopefully a groom-to-be will be made just as welcome. I
have been reading here for several months now, and dying to respond to
many of the posts. Unfortunately, the need to the big event a surprise
for certain folks got in the way. Finally, I can post when I want to!!!
Pretty soon I should have a page up about the engagement and wedding
plans, but I wanted to get word out to people as soon as I could. I have
been nearly bursting at the seams wanting to tell people.
To go ahead and answer the "poll" type questions that have come out
lately, here I go... I am 25, she is 27. We have known each other for
one and a half years -- 1 year she was far away, for 6 months she has
been local. She moved from Illinois to Maryland (almost) exclusively so
that she could be with me. We are looking at a May 1997 wedding or there
abouts. Partially it is to give us time to plan but mostly it is to give
us a chance to get used to the idea of being married.
The ring was a .55 carat diamond (G,VS2,near optimal cut) set between two
trillian rubies in a beautiful custom setting. Everyone goes nuts over
the ring. The wedding band is made to fit exactly against the contours
of the engagement ring.
As far as who picked it out... well, it worked out great in our case.
She had dropped hints about what she would like in a ring far in
advance. I knew not to get her a plain Tiffany setting. I found
(completely by accident/fate/Divine Intervention) a wonderful jeweler who
I discussed our ideas with. He did a prototype design in a couple of
days, and when I saw it I KNEW it was the right ring for Kim. After that
it was just a matter of discussing details to get it right.
I had intended to wait until Christmas and make it a surprise... Luckily
though, various future oriented subjects came up and I had to clam up.
What I needed to say was predicated on the fact that we were going to be
engaged, and I couldn't stand to give away the secret. So, I invited her
in to work with me. (It was a Saturday, but I had certain things I needed
to get done.) I sat her down in front of the computer and when she
wasn't looking I pulled up the design page off of the Web. She looked at
it and she started to read. And she read more. (It had a beautiful
picture of the ring, and some text from Ray to me talking about it. The
title was "Scott's Engaging Idea.") Finally, it began to dawn on her
face what she was looking at. I got down on one knee (which she swears
she doesn't remember) and said "Will you marry me?". She said "yes" and
proceeded to cry a lot. Then she stopped and started again all day.
We agreed to keep the engagement a secret until Christmas because I had
jumped the gun and I wasn't really ready to deal with announcing to the
world that I was engaged... Kim is wonderful...
Anyway, the point was that when she saw it she agreed that it was just
the perfect ring. It is very much her, and me, and it is absolutely one
of a kind. So, THEN we had Ray build it. This is cool because she could
see the ring beforehand, but we didn't go to the expense of building it
until I knew it was right. If I had given it to her on Christmas as a
complete surprise, I might be wondering still whether the ring was REALLY
exactly what she wanted. She had input, so now I know.
Anyway, a couple weeks later, I got the ring delivered. I was absolutely
blown away. The diamond is stunning. It looks bigger than similar sized
diamonds that I have seen locally because it is so well cut. Quite
honestly, the original picture (while beautiful) doesn't do the ring
justice. It was so beautiful that I just couldn't wait to give it to
Kim. So... I showed it to her, and she wore it on a couple of special
occasions when we were somewhere that it was "ok" to show people.
