Markups are around 300% in most retail locations, guaranteed! ![]()
![]() Most services and products offered via traditional outlets are going to carry a heavy markup, reflective of the advertising, expensive retail store frontage and of course the merchendizing tactics of the corporation. I have watched the average quality of jewelry over the past three decades decline markedly, and what is offered as superior is often so extremely highly marked up that it becomes nearly unaffordable. I watched a traveling jewelry show charging about a ten times markup on their loose mountings, and the average is rapidly becomeing 300% as the default. Those lovely color catalogs you'll be shown are nearly always nested with a 300% (Triple Keystone) markup... Now I like making the house payment too, but laying down one dollar all day and picking up three seems nearly usuary to me. Not sure that is spelled quite right but I sure know that I don't like the trend.
When I started Oregon's largest, and most profesional, fine jewelry
tradeshop in 1973 I had in mind working for top quality store professionals,
building and servicing fine jewelry and working with beauty. In the early
days the stores cared, but somewhere in the past fifteen years or so the
average product knowledge has decreased by half, and the markups went
from the traditional Keystone markups (200%) to soar as far as
the individual merchant thinks the traffic will bear. After nearly twenty
five years, as many as 21 workers and processing over 50,000 service requests
for the trade now I'm working directly for you! As markups go routinely
300% now, with some charging more, avoid the greif. Now I have no interest in helping national retail chains build 12 new stores in the sun belt, now we work direct, and I concern myself with building quality products, and relationships based on caring and quality. I once had a senior retail store manager say "This is merch gentlemen, not art"... I guess when my web pages started to generate about as much business as my busiest clients I started weighing the options of simply showing in this site what we can do, and seeing if the public was savy enough to understand the difference. Do simpy radio jingles win over common sense, product knowledge and lower prices? I decided to take a bold adventure, for a republican near twenty five year owner of Oregon's largest and most robust union professional tradeshop it was a leap of faith for sure.
We're not repackaged retailers. I'm glad to say that it seems
that the public, at least the internet crowd,
seem to be, so I must say that I am entirely delighted. If you need a
bit of convincing that we're not just another retailer just check my
references and take a peek at my
customer comments and you'll quickly get the idea. We can order
you that perfect mounting, if you get the manufacturer's name and the
model number, or build it for you at a price that makes the finest platinum
as affordable. You'll see things which I have set, and engraved, so regardless
of if I build it or purchase and resell it you can be assured of top quality
and uncommon value as the default here. Print out my diamond list and call up three local stores, and ask them if they can match the price. Quality for quality and item for item we will not be undersold. Both Duane and I have served the retail jewelry industry for years, I as a diamond setter, shop owner and service provider, and Duane as a diamond broker and bullion dealer at times. We are both born of wholesale, so you'll get no skinny tie talk here folks, just plain honest facts. If you ask for my opinion you'll get it, without tilting to make the sale. So, welcome to the web site, enjoy the antics and products, and please excuse the spelling :) Knowledge is Power, be more powerful! |
