Chemical composition -- Sodium-aluminum chlorosilicate.

Color -- Blue, white, gray, pink.

Optics -- R.I. 1.48.

Durability -- Hardness 5.5-6.

Crystal structure -- Isometric (cubic).

Specific Gravity -- 2.28.

Sources -- Canada and Namibia are prime sources.

Sodalite often resembles lapis lazuli, and like it is used in abundance for cabochons and ornamental objects. Some tiny crystals from Namibia have been faceted, but these are quite rare.
