Chemical composition -- A sodium or calcium aluminum silicate.

Color -- Colorless, yellow, purple, pink.

Optics -- R.I. 1.54-1.60. Biaxial.

Durability -- Hardness 6. Usable in protective jewelry.

Crystal structure -- Tetragonal.

Density -- 2.50-2.78.

Sources -- Brazil, Tanzania, Burma. Large yellow scapolites are abundant. Pinkish-purple stones are rare in large sizes. Burmese catseye scapolites are quite rare.
