Chemical composition -- A complex silicate containing phosphorus, calcium, and sodium.

Color -- shades of violet to lilac.

Optics -- R.I 1.55-1.56.

Durability -- Hardness 5-6.

Crystal structure -- monoclinic.

Specific Gravity -- 2.54-2.68.

Sources -- The only known source is the Chary River in Yakutsk (in the former U.S.S.R.), where it was discovered in the 1978. Charoite is found in massive forms suitable for ornamental items, such as vases, goblets, and cabochons.
