This is the princesscut page, and this is by design one of the brightest and most wonderful fancy shapes that there is in the diamond world. The Princesscut is not like the round diamond, in that there is not a very well universially agreed upon standard to define what might be considered "Ideal" but I think that the following information will aid you in understanding this cut, and how the range for maximum beauty works. The depth of the princesscut can really cost you appearant size if not careful, what you will see in the lists of princesscuts are some stones will go past 75% in depth, but where the smart money goes is in the lower to mid-sixties, and up to the very low seventires if one must, but just remember that you measure "appearant size" with a millimeter gauge and not diamond scales. A deep diamond will be smaller than a well placed depth, and just remember as well that the brightness and the beauty are totally dependant on the math... Table sizes are great in the sixties of course, but into the mid seventies is fine because this cut really works differently than the round diamond, and the table size is much less critical. This is also a brillianteered but, so you can really do well with a SI1, where in say an emerald cut any inclussions will be seen since this is a step cut, sort of bar facets design, and like a clear pool of water, but the princesscut is more like the firey and brilliant round cut, and a well cut bright diamond in the SI1 range can yield appearant perfection in spades...

Girdle is only a concern if the description is extremely thin, but really in a well designed setting this will not be a problem at all, just remember that a very thick or extremely thick girdle also costs you appearant size, since it reduces the measurable distance across the diamond. Fluorescence is pretty much a non-event, and anywhere up to medium should be consdiered fine, with no denegrating effect in the real world. Most want a princesscut to be fairly squared up, but in the rectangular shapes also lay beawuty and dramatic effect, so it really boils down to what style of ring or application the diamond is going to fill, and that should really set the stage for the shape, but the square is the more desirable by some distance...
